INTRODUCTION
In this "HowTo" we show you how easy it is to use your completed StencilPro stencil from our "Make a StencilPro Stencil" guide.
STEP 1: PUT A SHEET OF CARDBOARD IN YOUR T-SHIRT
Place a sheet of cardboard between the front and back of your t-shirt to prevent ink from bleeding to the other side. Optionally spray one side of the cardboard to help prevent t-shirt from sliding around.
STEP 2: TAPE STENCIL TO T-SHIRT
Using low tack painters masking tape, secure StencilPro to your t-shirt.
STEP 3: PUT A BEAD OF INK ON SQUEEGEE
Put a healthy bead of silkscreening ink on the edge of your squeegee. Use plenty to prevent voids during squeegeeing. Excess ink can always be put back in the jar.
STEP 4: SQUEEGEE ACROSS STENCIL
Starting from one end, keep your squeegee at a 30 to 45 degree angle and squeegee across your stencil at a steady pace. Once you reach the other end, turn your squeegee around and go back. It's important to keep your squeegee at a 30-45 degree angle to prevent ink from bleeding underneath your stencil. Using your squeegee like a paint brush to force ink through will cause bleeding. So will moving your squeegee too fast over your work.
STEP 5: LIFT STENCL
Starting from one corner, carefully lift StencilPro while inspecting results. If you missed any spots replace stencil without shifting and repeat steps 3 and 4. Once satisfied, completely lift the stencil and place it in the stainless steel pan.
STEP 6: CLEAN YOUR STENCIL
Clean your StencilPro stencil as soon as possible. DO NOT LET INK DRY ON YOUR STENCIL. Dried ink will permanently clog and damage StencilPro.
STEP 7: HEAT SET INK
Most silkscreen inks must be heat set before washing your t-shirt for the first time. Be sure to follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer.
Wait for the ink to completely dry, place a sheet of parchment paper over the imprint and go over with a hot cloths iron.
